Human being-doing

Human Being vs. Human Doing

In the chaos of everyday life, we often meet people who, no matter what they do, are never satisfied. They rarely give themselves credit because they’re chasing an imaginary ideal of being or doing. They hardly pause to reflect on their daily challenges, their accomplishments, or the countless small acts of kindness they share.

Instead, there’s a negative voice whispering on their shoulders, pointing only to what they haven’t done, ignoring the effort, the smiles, the generosity, and the quiet impact they make every day.

This reminds me of the women in my life. Every time we meet for coffee or chat on the phone, I hear it in between the lines: this relentless dissatisfaction, based on nothing more than a small reflection of their day. That critical voice carrying impossible expectations needs to be thrown away with all the force we can muster.

The idea of “superwoman” is surreal. Perfection cannot be chased, and all the “superpeople” we see online are often creating a kind of science-fiction version of their lives sometimes even surprising themselves with the impossible image they project.

As human beings, it’s okay to celebrate being, not just doing. Our worth isn’t measured by productivity or perfection. It’s found in the small, genuine moments that make us fully, wonderfully human.
